I like having a companion, but whats been bugging me is when i mount up on a horse, he/she just runs behind me. would be much better if we could give commands from horseback so that companion could sit on the horse as well (or its own horse if they have one).
also would be cool if they didnt always run behind you, but ran with you (alongside).
finally, when u 'trade items' u dont see everything they hold (like basic gear). i'd like to be able to see it so i can remove it and give them what i want (my lass is determined to wear her steel armour despite me giving her nicer looking elven armour...)
I am not very much in "cosmetic" stuff, but changing companion equipment sounds like a must for me.
They do use equipment that you give them.
It depends on the type of armour that you give them. Elven is light while Steel is heavy, which is why they might not have used it.
Hope that helps

aye, i figured it might be that, then yesterday i hand her a bunch of thalmar clothes to hold for me (the cloth stuff), and she goes and puts it on >.<
so... perhaps the idea i wanna suggest is the ability to tell your companions what to use...
The armor they use depends on probably two things, the companions preference and the armors rating. Since companions appear to have skills, like from Fallout 3, they will probably choose an armor they are proficient in. Additionally, if a type of armor given to them is better, so has a higher armor value, they will use that instead of a lower value item.
They also seems to go for flat stats increase. My companion had a 1h sword that dealt 10 pts of dam and a fire enchantment on it dealing 18 points of fire dam. When he got a sword dealing more than 10 pts of dam he would equip it.
